RISE ABOVE PLASTIC + SURFRIDER FOUNDATION = RAPTOBERFEST

Primary tabs

  Did you know…

…that in certain places of the ocean, the amount of suspended plastic particles actually outnumbers ambient plankton?
…that approximately one million seabirds and one hundred thousand marine mammals die from ingestion or entanglement in plastics each year?
…that with the exception of a small amount that has been incinerated, virtually every piece of plastic that has ever been created still exists in some shape or form?

Well now that you do….Read more about RAPtoberfest on Surfrider Foundation to take action in being part of the solution!

Plastics have undoubtedly helped us to manufacture, package and ship goods more easily, for less money, and in some cases more safely than ever before. But plastics pose a significant threat to our planet as well. The very qualities that make plastic an adaptable and durable product to use, also make it an environmental nightmare. Plastics do not biodegrade. Instead they break down with exposure to weather and the sun’s ultraviolet rays, into smaller and smaller pieces. When these pieces infiltrate the environment, especially marine environments, they wreak havoc – killing millions of birds and animals annually.
In response to this problem, the Surfrider Foundation founded its Rise Above Plastics campaign. Our goal is to raise awareness of the dangers of plastic pollution and focus on finding solutions.
For the entire month of October the Surfrider Foundation and our friends at Rusty will be celebrating RAPTOBERFEST. We’ll be sharing plastic related facts, as well as tips on how to reduce your individual plastic footprint. Share your own tip on how to reduce your plastic footprint on Surfrider’s Facebook or Twitter page and you might win cool gear from Rusty! We’ll also be offering a special RAPTOBERFEST membership package that includes a limited edition t-shirt.
To kick things off, on Saturday, October 1st, Surfrider Foundation and CLIF Bar will be hosting our ONE FOOT AT A TIME plastic clean-up effort – where volunteers across the country will be working to remove plastic waste from the environment one square foot at a time!
So this October get ready to Rise Above Plastics by celebrating RAPTOBERFEST
